COAT TALES - THINGS TO COME

COAT TALES - THINGS TO COME

We're loving our Spring / Summer collection at the moment - the cut grass greens, magentas and serpentine blues -  but we must confess that we're starting to get very excited about the launch of our Autumn / Winter 2018 collection 'London Stories' in August.

We are going to be introducing four exciting new coat styles into our range, each inspired by different areas of London - and each of course made by craftsmen in the capital, using the finest British cloth. From the flamboyant Clerkenwell double breasted coat in Finsbury orange to the regal Kensington coat in Duck Egg, the collection features a range of statement pieces that have been designed to delight little ones and their grown ups alike. Better still, we are going to be extending our size range up to 7-8 years so older children needn't miss out on our Great British creations.

Follow us on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest for some sneak peeks at the new collection!

COAT TALES: THE PAST IN THE PRESENT

COAT TALES: THE PAST IN THE PRESENT

We're often asked where we get the inspiration from for our coat designs. As a team of historians as well as designers, the short answer is 'the past'.

In preparation for each season, our design team leafs through reams of archival material from Victorian and Edwardian Britain, whether fashion magazines or high society portraiture, photographs of the royal family or couturiers' advertisements to find coat styles that would appeal to modern audience across the world.

The next step is adaptation and modernisation. The inspiration for one of our pieces usually comes from several historical outerwear styles, so our design team works hard to fuse together elements of the designs that they have retrieved from the archives.

Our aim, as our founder Rachael puts it, 'is never to simply re-make classical British coat styles, but rather to revitalise them so that they are relevant and desirable to parents and children today'.

Take our Kensington coat, for example. The original inspiration for this AW18 piece came from a mixture of Victorian gallery coat designs and images of Edwardian seaside fashions captured from an imported 1912 edition of the Gazette de Bon Ton.

In other words, what we do is to bring the past to the present for future generations, one coat at a time!

A JUNIOR STYLE FESTIVE FEATURE

A JUNIOR STYLE FESTIVE FEATURE

We're delighted to be featured on Junior Style in a fabulous festive photo story by the talented photographer Natasha Bridges, who documents her son Oak's adventures through the blog 'Growing Oak'.

In a series of snowy scenes that were captured last week during the first snowfall of the winter in the UK, the photo story follows little boy Oak's adventures in his winter wonderland whilst wearing our classic Marsden coat in Airforce Blue, our College Scarf in the Modern Life colour way, and our Argyll Bobble Hat in Royal Blue. Photographer Natasha explained her clothing choices for the photoshoot:

'Having a desire for British heritage with quintessential British style, and adding some festive sparkle, the special edition Marsden coat in airforce blue from The Great British Baby Company was the perfect choice'.
